Tesla spoiling car culture?

The new Tesla Model S plaid is released. The company CEO Elon Musk claimed that It is the quickest accelerating production car and it can accelerate from 0-60 in 1.9s. He also added that "No production car has ever done 0-60 mph in under 2.0 seconds. ". Which made so much hype in between Tesla fanboys and car folks, and also created suspicion among Car Nerds.

As mentioned in the previous blog, a performance of a car is limited by tires at this stage. This means even with a million horsepower that the maximum time a road vehicle can attain 0 to 100kmph is 1.98s (Michelin Sport Tires). But no car according to European standards has done achieved an under 2 performance because of some dynamic reason (tire lag, gear shifts). But Tesla obviously doesn't have gear shifts and they have instant torque to wheels as well, which is kinda reasonable to believe that it is possible in an electric car Even then there were so many concerns about this 2s barrier. Will Tesla be the first company to break this barrier.

But when tesla is out on websites for order. The model S was specified with a star, When checked out, it said without rollout included. This made a lot of controversies among car nerds and called itself cheating. Dodge which is said to be the fastest 0-60mph car to date previously before this incident claimed 0 to 60mph without roll-out is a joke.

What is rollout?

In America, to exaggerate the timing of 0-60 and compensate for tire lag, the car starts to accelerate 0.3m before the timing trigger starts, this used to give an added benefits of 0.3s in earlier car, but later went out of practice because European Standards were too good for people they outperformed American standards (with rollout) test, but still used by quite a several magazines which say both the times of the car.

But rollout gives a different advantage for different cars. A car with a larger wheel accelerates faster in this 0.3m and starts the time with better speed, while the car with a smaller wheel doesn't get that benefits. Tesla being an electric vehicle is obviously fitter with a bigger wheel (21''), so definitely has an advantage there.

How far rollout helped Tesla?

According to the data collected from MotorTrend tests, Tesla starts the trigger point at a speed of 6mph which is like 9kmph and reaches 60mph which is 96kmph in 1.98s so the tesla achieved that 1.98 mark from 6 to 60 not 0 to 60. When we talk in European Standards ( Worldwide accepted) tesla makes 9 to 96kmph in 1.98s not 0 to 100.

Another deceptive technique from Tesla.

Tesla used VHT (glue). VHT is a resin-like substance that adheres the road and tire thus increasing the grip. This is basically used in dragstrips for Dragster races, Where every car has that advantage. But do we get the glue applied on our city or highway roads? Do we have the option of the rollout on city roads?

This question arrives from the words of Elon Musk, Who claimed it is going to be the first Production Car that is going to breaks the 2s barrier. The alternate words could have been, It is the one among few cars that is going to break the 2s barrier in dragstrips ( Yes, there are already cars who did this ). This is what car folks are calling it as false claims and deceptive marketing.

Many people don't know what rollout is. Many people don't know what VHT is. So it is clear enough to change these folk's minds and make them believe that this is that car but which is not. These uncultured young tesla fanboys, now ruining car culture in the name of calling themselves as car folks and shitting other cars with their false information.

Actual data of Tesla in normal conditions.

Under pure road conditions from 0 to 60mph without VHT Tesla can make 0 to 60 in 2.3s, Usually, for most cars, it is +0.3s plus the non-rollout time but Tesla takes 0.4s. This means Tesla is lagging in the middle where they cannot perform like other road cars ( It is believed to be the large wheels, which could be the reason in the long runs ), Which is a good acceleration for a car but Lamborghini achieved this mark in 2018 itself.

Elon Musk the king of false claims:

This is not the first time Tesla is making controversial statements, saying from 10,000 Nm torque to 1000HP motor to sleekiest car, they made many unproven claims and never answered the criticism posted against them.
Also, Tesla is completely using different metrics to spec their car, which is not how cars were measured and completely against the tradition and flexing rules to their advantage. Which clearly says it is against car culture.

The number told by Elon Musk is 19s, later mentioned on the website is 1.98s and later proved to be 2.3s, so the difference is 0.4s, Which is a huge amount in car scale. Don't fall for this poor marketing trap, Tesla is good still they are not what they say. Don't shit about other cars in the market. Be a cultured man.
